Mr. Chan was a founder of Texas Asian Chamber of Commerce (TACC) in1996, its first Chairman and recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award.

He conceived and organized the first Asiatech conference series. The Asiatech events are designed to build bridges between Asian and U.S. technology companies who want to explore synergies and possible partnering opportunities in trade and investment. The second event that was held in conjunction with the national computer show in Tianjin which was is an annual event held for the last six years under the sponsorship of China's Ministry of Information Industry.
In his private business, Mr. Chan is founder and CEO of LifeScience group, manufacturer and distributor of Ondrox, www.ondrox.com, the only antioxidant formulation endorsed by the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
Other past business experience includes: (1) senior positions with Cargill, Inc., the second largest privately held company in the U.S., as its Far East Representative, coordinator for general trading, and manager of diversification programs in the head offices; (2) founder and CEO of Ejura Farms Ghana Ltd that was used by Harvard Business School as a case study; (3) ore trading in partnership with Caemi International, a unit which is part of Dr. Augusto Antunes's conglomerate in Brazil; (4) founder and CEO of Austin Construction Steel, Inc. which was awarded "Manufacturer of the Year, 1992" by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce.
His public service work has included being a trustee of the Long Center for the Performing Arts, Austin, Texas; a trustee of the Austin Lyric Opera; member of the board of United Way of Central Texas; and Chair, Blueprint Committee, first (1998) Texas Economic Summit (sponsored by a coalition of state-wide Hispanic, Black, and Women's chambers of commerce). The blueprint was introduced at the 1999 Texas Legislature and used as a working paper for a bill that codified the HUB law.
Mr. Chan was born in Burma of Chinese parents and naturalized U.S. citizen. He was educated in China, Burma, India, University of Virginia and Stanford University. He has an M.A. degree in Foreign Affairs and completed his Ph.D. work in Economics and minor in International Law. |
